I remember as a kid being excited to go to church on Easter Sunday because I had new clothes and new shoes to wear, which was part of our family tradition. As I got older, I still saw Easter as a significant time in the Christian calendar but for different reasons, least of all new clothes and shoes! As a single person you might feel like Easter doesn’t have much to offer you in terms of excitement. But what if I told you that Easter is the perfect time to reconnect with God, especially if you feel your relationship has been a bit shaky?
A quick internet search for Easter activities near me comes up with a host of activities for families and children. You have to look hard if you want something for adults, and even further if you want something specifically for single adults. This can be a tad depressing and if this has been your experience over the years it might have even affected your relationship with God.
If you haven’t been to church for a while, you could take the bold step of going to a local church during this Easter period. Many churches put on special Easter services and welcome members, new and old, to attend. But reconnecting with God doesn’t have to be a big decision like walking into a new church.
Reading your Bible at home (you could use a targeted devotional) and spending some time praying will also help you reconnect with God. Connecting with people of similar faith is another way you can reconnect with God. A Christian singles group would be a great way to meet with people of the same faith who are also going through similar experiences. If there isn’t one near you, you could consider starting one yourself.
The ultimate reason Jesus came to earth is because God wants us to be reconciled to Him. When life gets busy or we wait years for answered prayers, fatigue and even resentment can set in which can create a distance between us and God. But He is never far away; we just need to reach out to Him, and just like the prodigal son’s father, His arms are always open wide to receive us.
As much as relationships and marriage are beautiful and good for us to desire, sometimes, what we’re really longing for is a relationship with God Himself; a longing no one else can satisfy. The Psalmist says in Psalm 42 verse 1-2:
As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?
Our deepest longing is for God, and whilst life gets in the way sometimes, Easter is the perfect opportunity to allow those longings to be filled. It also reminds us of the power of God, and His faithfulness. His power, in that He raised Christ from the dead, and His faithfulness in keeping His word. From the beginning of the Bible there are prophecies about the coming Messiah, but also His death and resurrection.
Easter reminds us that God keeps His word and His promises. So, if you’re single and feeling a bit disconnected this Easter, why not take the opportunity to reconnect with God and trust that if He could be faithful to His promises in the Bible, He can also be faithful to meet your desires?
How could you reconnect with God this Easter?
