Selena had grown up in the country on her family’s farm and was working as a teacher when she joined Christian Connection. “I’d been single for a while and wanted another avenue to meet people that was outside of the circles that I was already in,” she remembers. Daniel was a farmer who was looking to meet someone. “We were both looking for Christian partners,” he says, “Christian Connection was the spot to be.”
When Daniel became a full member, Selena took notice: “He’d actually written more in his profile, he’d actually taken time. So I actually just sent him a message and said, Do you want to go for a coffee? And that’s where it started from.”
Their first date didn’t go exactly as Selena had expected. “They’d been planting on the farm, and he was so tired. He’s sitting there looking like he’s nearly going to fall asleep. And I was just thinking, ‘Oh, this bloke’s not interested.’ So I try to wrap it up. I went home and I thought about it, and my dad is a farmer, and I do understand what the lifestyle is. He’s tired? I’ll give him the benefit of doubt, so I gave him another chance.”
Four months later that second chance turned into a proposal, followed by a beautiful wedding under a giant fig tree, and within a year of marriage their first child. Now a family of five, Daniel says “We have sometimes our own expectations. Sometimes God has expectations for us as well and what what he wants for us. And God gives us something better than we can even hope for, especially with the internet dating.”
