6 joyful Christmas date ideas to celebrate the season

Dating during the festive season is exciting. Christmas is a time of hope, joy, peace, faith and love, as we celebrate the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Those positive feelings can help inspire connections with others and offer opportunities to embrace the joy and excitement that Christmas brings. Here are six fun Christmas date ideas to help you make the most of the season.

1. Festive Market

If you’re near enough to visit one, it’s a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the festivities. You might find Christmas music, seasonal drinks like mulled wine, eggnog or something fruity, treats and foods to sample, gift ideas, and a fun atmosphere to share with a date.

2. Carol concert / Church service

The church calendar fills with activity during December, and many will be doing something extra special over the Christmas period. Inviting your date to a carol concert, crib service, or Christmas play at a nearby church is a lovely way to feel festive, have fellowship with other Christians, praise God and put God at the centre of your relationship and dating life.

Whether you sing some carols – who doesn’t love a good ‘Hark The Herald Angels Sing’ – or take time to listen and reflect on the season, it’s a great way to get into the Christmas spirit together.

3. Christmas lights and decorations walk

Man and woman enjoying seasonal walk - Christian Connection blog - 6 joyful Christmas date ideas to celebrate the seasonEvery year as part of my Christmas traditions, I love going to see the Christmas lights near my home. There’s always something new to see with so much creativity and sparkle on display, and it feels exciting and magical.

Rather than opting for a generic date of going for a walk, make the most of the seasonal opportunities and seek out places nearby that have decided to put on something to see. Maybe grab a festive snack and drink for the journey and make an occasion out of it.

4. Volunteering

The festive period offer plenty of ways to volunteer to give back to your community. Whether you help out through a church, charity or community event, you can invite your date to join you and get stuck in. You can work together and offer help where it’s needed.

At a time when commerciality and materialism can seem to dominate, this is a wonderful way to bring it back to the heart of the Christmas message.

5. Tree decorating

Man and woman decorating a Christmas tree - Christian Connection blog - 6 joyful Christmas date ideas to celebrate the seasonA great way to get into the Christmas spirit is by decorating a tree together. It may be at one of your homes or you could help with the local church’s Christmas tree or at a community centre. You’ll definitely soon learn who likes the baubles in a certain order and colour coordinated, and who doesn’t mind! It’s a lovely bonding experience, whilst enjoying each other’s company. Why not curate a fun Christmas song playlist to listen to whilst decorating?

6. Festive karaoke / Singalong

With all the Christmas songs being dusted off for this time of year, who doesn’t love singing along to ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’, or ‘Last Christmas’? Instead of a normal karaoke night, why not turn it into Christmas karaoke and sing your favourite songs, either at a local event or a singalong with friends at home.

It’s one way to break the ice, not take yourself too seriously, and maybe you could even dress up in Christmas jumpers – the cheesier the better!
